Day 3: Athens Acropolis

< Last Day   Next Day>

During the first part of our trip, we rented a car and spent time in Athens and throughout the Peloponnese Penisula.  We ended this part of the trip at the port at Piraeus.

We arrived in Athens this morning and visited the Acropolis during the afternoon.  Before our tour we stopped for gyros.  Everyone was a big fan.  He was sold on them as soon as he saw french fried in the gyro.  Sawyer later said, "It's too bad we can't get these in America."

Fletcher is not in any of our photos today because he has not been with us during this trip so far.  He was in Europe with a school tour for the past ~13 days.  We picked him up in Athens in the evening.

Starting our walk to the Acropolis. We stopped at this Greek Orthodox Church along the way.

Athens looks beautiful from a distance.  Up close, the amount of graffiti is amazing.

Porch of the Maidens at the Erechtheion.

Temple of Athena Nike

Odeon of Herodes Atticus

Theater of Dionysus

We stayed in the northern part of Athens. We could see the Acropolis lit up at night from our rooftop deck.

After getting Fletcher in the evening, we had a late night trip to the airport to collect a piece of luggage that got lost in our Rome to Athens flight. Very happy to get this before we leave Athens in the morning.
