September 2022
From Rome, Cooper traveled Krakow, Poland, Vienna, Austria, various cities in Italy, and also started a ten-day trip to Greece right at the end of the month.
Krakow, Poland
Having a great time. We got breakfast at a cafe, then walked through the downtown and got to Wawel Cathedral. We went in and explored. Beautiful chapels, a huge underground tombs area, and we got to climb up the bell tower as well. Got to see so much in there. This whole area is an actual castle too.
St. Mary's Basilica
Rome We just harvested grapes on campus. Good afternoon. Field trip was awesome. We're at a cafe right now just enjoying the city a little bit before we head back. Theology test tomorrow. The art exercise was super interesting. We had to sit in front of a statue for half an hour and write about it in different ways. I actually loved it. I'll send some pictures your way. Equestrian Status of Marcus Aurelius
Statui de Daci
The Colossus of Constance
The Roman Forum
I just finished lunch with the seminarians (good pizza) and now I'm sitting at a cafe looking out at all of Rome. It's an incredible view. They gave me an itinerary and told me to go to these places but also to get a little bit lost during the process.
Just finished up at Poseidonia/Paestum. Incredible. I love seeing the temples. There were a lot of pieces of art that we had studied.
Paestrum, Italy
Presepi del Banco di Napoli
Luigi Vanvitelli, Mariano De Angelis
It's going well, I'm on my way back to campus right now with Peter and some girls. It was a good day. We went to two churches and then went and got some dinner and played some pool and darts at the bar. I'll send some pictures. Really cool stuff because we're learning about constantines time (324 AD onward) and there are some really old churches that are still standing. Really enjoyed it. We also went to the "cripti" of St Agnes. That's the lady picture. It was under the second larger church which is directly connected to the catacombs. The church had to build down to connect to it which is what the staircase is connecting to the ground level. The church would have been buried about 20 feet on the inside looking at it from the outside. Crazy stuff but pretty genius.
Vienna, Austria Weekend Trip Karlskirche Church
Greece (10-day fieldtrip) These are pictures of the church of St. Andrew. It's a beautiful Greek Orthodox church that houses the relics of St. Andrew. His cross, skull, and finger are in the aisles on the side.
