Day 7: Shenyang (Foster Family Visit)

< Last Day    Next Day>

We had a very special day today.  Finn has lived with his foster family for about six years. Yesterday afternoon we asked our guide if it would be possible to visit them at their home and also see Finn's school. Our guide was a little surprised.  In his three years of doing this work nobody has asked to take a visit like this and he has never gone on a trip like this.

Finn's foster parents live in a rural area about 1.5 hours from Shenyang.  Their small town has a cluster of foster homes and Finn's school is solely for these orphans.  The town is remote enough that I suspect we might be the first westerners these people have ever seen other than on television.

We got to see Finn's teacher, classmates, Principal, foster parents, foster parent's grandson (Finn's age), and a little downs girl who they also foster.  She was beautiful.  On short notice they put on a feast for us.  It was wonderful.  We also received records and photos of Finn for the past six years of his life from his school.

We exchanged WeChat information and encouraged everyone to contact Finn any time.  They seemed very appreciative.  Finn has been well-loved.

Finn's school and classmates.  The school was very nice. The school administrator is in black and his teacher is in green.

They joined us for lunch.  Wonderful hosts.

Foster parent's house. They had a big, beautiful vegetable garden on the right and another one behind the house. The house is a three-room, two-bedroom house.

The feast they prepared was amazing.

This little boy is the foster parent's grandson.  He is also eight.

The little girl is his foster sister.  She is four.
